Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) is a synthetic lipid-lowering agent. The ingredient of this medicine is Rosuvastatin Calcuim. The complete program of the treatment includes diet, exercise, and weight control and Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) is a part of this treatment. Strict diet, medication, and exercise routines should be followed. Before observing improvement, the medicine should be consumed for several weeks. The medicine should not be stopped by the patient without the consultation of the physician.
The blood and the liver function tests should be regularly checked, to ensure that Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) fails to produce any harmful effects on the body. It is observed that in a few cases, rosuvastatin can produce a condition which leads to the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue. This breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue can result into kidney failure and is more likely to occur in older adults.
Foods that are high in fat or cholesterol should be avoided. If the patient does not adapt a diet with low cholesterol then, Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) will not prove to be of great help in reducing the cholesterol. Alcohol intake is to be avoided while consuming this cholesterol reducing medicine. As, alcohol can accelerate the levels of triglyceride, and can also harm the liver of the patient.
There should be great care in taking antacids while taking Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) and that too it should be taken only after 2 hours after taking rosuvastatin. As, there are certain types of different medicines in anatacids which make it difficult for the body to absorb rosuvastatin.
For effective results, Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) should be taken regularly. Doubling of dose should be avoided in case of missed dose. Use of this cholesterol reducing drug should not be taken in large amounts and for prolonged periods of time unless, recommended by your physician. Emergency medical attention should be sought for in case of overdosing of Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium).

Dosage of this cholesterol reducing drug is based on the medical condition of the patient, response to therapy, and also the use of some interacting medicines. The dose recommended generally varies from 5 to 40 mg. Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) should be taken orally with a glass full of water and can be consumed with or without food. It should be consumed once each day and preferably should be taken at the same time each day. Consumption of the medication should be exactly as recommended by the physician.

There are several side effects of Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) observed, a few of them are as follows - allergic reactions, breathing difficulty, myalgia, fever or flu symptoms, increased urination or reduced urination, jaundice, chest pain, swelling in hands or feet, weakness, nausea, headache, loss of memory, etc.

There are certain drugs which interfere in the action of this medication. Hence, before starting to take Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium), you must inform your physician, if you are consuming any of the below mentioned drugs:
• Antacids
• cimetidine (Tagamet);
• cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Gengraf, Neoral);
• ketoconazole (Nizoral);
• lopinavir and ritonavir (Kaletra);
• niacin (Nicolar, Nicobid, Nicotinex, others);
• spironolactone (Aldactazide, Aldactone);
• a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin); or
• Other cholesterol-lowering medications, such as clofibrate (Atromid-S), fenofibrate (Tricor), or gemfibrozil (Lopid).

Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) is used to lower the fats (triglycerides) and cholesterol in the blood. Reduction of cholesterol and triglycerides further helps in preventing strokes and heart attacks.

Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) should be stored at room temperature. It should also be stored far from moisture and heat.

• In case you are allergic to rosuvastatin or any other drug avoid using this drug.
• If you suffer from liver disease, or are pregnant or breast-feed a baby then, the use of Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) should be avoided.
• Inform your physician in case you suffer from kidney disease or a muscle disorder or underactive thyroid or epilepsy or have recently undergone a surgery.
• Consumption of alcohol and antacids should be avoided.
