Description
Prednisolone is a steroidal drug which is indicated in reducing inflammation and in reducing symptoms in various disorders like, rheumatoid arthritis and severe cases of asthma. It is also indicated in primary or secondary adrenal cortex insufficiency. The content of Prednisolone is Prednisone. Prednisone is a white, odorless, crystalline powder which is mildly soluble in water, in alcohol, in chloroform, in dioxane, and in methanol. Prednisolone is used to suppress the immune system and inflammation.
Prednisolone can make it tough for the physician to diagnose the actual disorder as it can mask few of the signs of an infection. Prednisolone is contraindicated in persons who suffer with systemic fungal infections and in those persons who are hypersensitive to the contents of Prednisolone.
Long-term high doses of Prednisolone can produce Cushing's syndrome hence, prolonged use of high doses of Prednisolone should be avoided. Immediate medical attention should be sought off in cases of overdose of Prednisolone.
An increased dose of Prednisolone shall be required by the patient before, during, and after any stressful situation, in case the patient has been taking Prednisolone for a long period of time. A temporary increase of dose shall always be administered when any stress is anticipated.
Patients who are on Prednisolone therapy for prolonged periods should always wear or carry identification.
In alternate-day therapy of Prednisolone, the "resting day" is provided so that the adrenal glands get a chance to produce some hormone naturally so that they shall attain their ability.
In case you are taking several doses of Prednisolone a day, then you must take the missed dose as soon as you remember and then continue with your regular schedule but in case you fail to remember until your next dose, then you can double the dose that you take.
