Description
Depakote (Divalproex sodium) is useful in the treatment of epilepsy and mania associated with bipolar disorder. It is also useful in the prevention of migraine and in the control of behavioral problems that are associated with dementia. The ingredient of this medicine is divalproex sodium. This medication works by reinstating the balance of certain natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain.
Sodium valproate and valproic acid are present in Depakote (Divalproex sodium). This medication is to be taken orally. The tablets of Depakote (Divalproex sodium) are available in three different strengths. The three different strengths contain divalproex sodium equivalent to 125 mg delayed-release tablets, 250 mg delayed-release tablets, or 500 mg delayed-release tablets of valproic acid. Cellulosic polymers, diacetylated monoglycerides, povidone, pregelatinized starch (contains corn starch), silica gel, talc, titanium dioxide, and vanillin are the inactive ingredients of Depakote (Divalproex sodium).
In case the dose of Depakote (Divalproex sodium) is missed and it is time to take the next dpose then one should continue with the schedule dose and avoid doubling of doses. There should be no overdosing of Depakote (Divalproex sodium) too. In case any over dose of Depakote (Divalproex sodium) occurs then, immediate medical attention should be sought for.
Depakote (Divalproex sodium) is contraindicated in people suffering with hepatic disease or significant hepatic dysfunction or in persons hypersensitive to the drug and in people with known urea cycle disorders.
Depakote (Divalproex sodium) should be consumed regularly, to get beneficial results. Care should be taken to consume the medicine at the same time everyday so as to keep the amount of medication in the blood constant.
In case this medicine is been taken for seizures, then you should avoid stopping this medication without the consultation of your doctor.
