Description

Lamisil (Terbinafine hydrochloride) is an antibiotic which has antifungal properties that is used to treat infections of the toenail and finger nail, some doctors also prescribe this medication to treat hair scalp infections in children above the age of 4 years. How to use

Lamisil (Terbinafine hydrochloride) is available in an oral formulation and a topical cream. The oral formulation is usually recommended to be taken once a day with water. Having food before the administration of the medication makes the dose more effective. The topical cream should be applied directly on the infection at least once a day. The medication should never be rubbed in. Instead a thin film should be coated.
Lamisil (Terbinafine hydrochloride) is not effective on viral infections like flu or common cold.

Side Effects

Patients who are being administered Lamisil (Terbinafine hydrochloride) are known to get side effects such as stomach pain, diarrhea, tiredness, itching of the skin, loss of appetite, heartburn, headache, congestion of the nose, sore throat and metallic taste in the mouth.
More serious side effects of Lamisil (Terbinafine hydrochloride) are fever, body ache, joint pain, swollen glands, chills, flu symptoms, weight loss, sore throat, scaly, flaky skin, blistering and peeling of the skin.
If hypersensitivity reactions are noticed such as hives, skin rashes, shortness of breath, swelling lips, face, throat and tongue are noticed, the medication should be stopped immediately and a doctor consulted.

Lamisil (Terbinafine hydrochloride) should be stored at room temperature and kept away from excess heat and moisture. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not store in the bathroom or near the sink.
Precaution

Patients who are on treatment using Lamisil (Terbinafine hydrochloride) need to undergo regular liver and blood tests in order to rule out the chances of liver damage. Caution who have lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, autoimmune disorder, kidney or liver disease should be careful during treatment.
The doctor’s advise regarding food, beverage and activity should strictly be followed so that the risk of side effects is reduced.
Pregnant women can be prescribed this medication. Mothers who are nursing their baby should not be prescribed Lamisil (Terbinafine hydrochloride) as the medication may be harmful for the baby.
