Description

Nicorette (Anti-smoking gum) is a medicated chewing gum that aids in quitting smoking. It contains small amounts of nicotine which reduces the intense physical nicotine withdrawal symptoms that smokers undergo when trying to quit smoking. It provides a much better chance of smokers quitting smoking for good than an attempt to quit by one self. Smokers have been known to quit smoking in 12 weeks of therapy using Nicorette (Anti-smoking gum).

How to use

Nicorette (Anti-smoking gum) should be used in a proper way to derive the maximum benefit. From week 1 to 6 of therapy, one piece of the gum should be taken every 1 or 2 hours. From week 7 to 9, one piece of the gum should be taken every 2 to 4 hours. For week 10 to 12, one piece of the gum should be taken every 4 to 8 hours. The maximum limit of gum per day should not exceed 24.

Each piece of the gum should be chewed several times very slowly. While chewing, as soon as a slight tingling in the mouth or a peppery taste is noticed, chewing should be stopped. This generally happens after 15 chews or one minute, but it varies in different people. The gum should now be parked between the cheek and the teeth gum and left there. When the tingle or the peppery taste goes away, chewing should be started once again. The tingle or peppery taste will occur again and chewing should be stopped. The gum is again parked, but in a different area of the mouth and chewing resumed when the tingling or peppery taste goes away. This cycle should be continued 4 to 7 times. After that the used piece of gum should be wrapped in paper and thrown away in trash.

Under no circumstances should Nicorette (Anti-smoking gum) be continued to be used after 12 weeks.

Side Effects

Nicorette (Anti-smoking gum) may cause side effects in a few smokers. Common side effects which are not very serious are abnormal dreams, difficulty in sleeping, joint pain, nervousness, itching, sweating, diarrhea, dry mouth, muscle pain, redness of the skin and weakness.

Severe side effects which require emergency medical attention are pounding of the chest and allergic reactions (symptoms are hives, rashes, swelling in the mouth, face, lips, tongue and eye are).
Drug Interaction

If a smoker who is on therapy using Nicorette (Anti-smoking gum) needs treatment for any disease or illness, the doctor should be aware that he is using this chewing gum before prescribing medicines to make sure there are no adverse drug interactions.

Uses

Nicorette (Anti-smoking gum) is used as an aid to help smokers quit smoking.
Storage

Room temperature is the best. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Precaution

Smokers should totally stop smoking before starting therapy using Nicorette (Anti-smoking gum). Nothing should be eaten or drunk 15 minutes before using this gum. Consumption of alcohol should be kept at the minimum because many smokers associate it with smoking.

Nicorette (Anti-smoking gum) is not recommended to be used by women who are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. It is also not recommended to be used by mothers who are breastfeeding their child.
