Prilosec is composed of active ingredient omeprazole or omeprazole magnesium and other inactive ingredients. Prilosec with active ingredient omeprazole is available as delayed release capsule. How to use
Prilosec (omeprazole) delayed release capsule should be swallowed whole. If any patient is unable to swallow the whole the patient can administer Prilosec (omeprazole magnesium) delayed release oral suspension capsule. Prilosec (omeprazole) delayed release capsule should be administered orally and before taking food with antacids.
For the adult patient with gastric ulcer, the initial recommended dose is 40mg of Prilosec (omeprazole or omeprazole magnesium) once a day for 4 weeks to 8 weeks.
For the adult patients with active duodenal ulcer, the initial recommended dose is 20mg of Prilosec (omeprazole or omeprazole magnesium) once a day for 4 weeks and sometimes it can be extended to 8 weeks.
For the adult patient with erosive esophagitis and accompaning symptomatic Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), the initial recommended dose is 20mg of Prilosec (omeprazole or omeprazole magnesium) a day for 4 weeks to 8 weeks.
For the adult patient with pathological hypersecretory conditions, the recommended initial dose is 60mg once a day to a maximum of 120mg of Prilosec [omeprazole or omeprazole magnesium] three times a day.

Side Effects
In case of adults patients the most common Prilosec (omeprazole) adverse effects found in administering the medication are abdominal pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and flatulence.
In case of pediatric patients the most common side effects are same as that of adults except respiratory system events and fever which are most frequently indicated.

Drug Interaction

Prilosec (omeprazole) may reduce the plasma level of nelfinavir, if Prilosec (omeprazole) is used concurrently with nelfinavir.
Prilosec (omeprazole) may increase the serum level of tacrolimus, if Prilosec (omeprazole) is used concurrently with tacrolimus.
Prilosec (omeprazole) may increase the plasma level of saquinavir, if Prilosec (omeprazole) is used concurrently with saquinavir.
Voriconazole may increase the plasma level of omeprazole, if Prilosec (omeprazole) is used concurrently with voriconazole.
Over Dose
In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.
Notes

Missed Dose

Precaution
Concomitant gastric malignancy is not desireable. Precautions should be taken.
