Revia (Naltrexone HCL – Oral) is a medication prescribed to opiate drug addicts to rid themselves of the habit. It is also prescribed to treat alcoholism in persons who are addicted to alcohol. Revia (Naltrexone HCL – Oral) should be administered under close supervision of a health practitioner. It should be used exactly as has been prescribed. Generally a dosage of one tablet once a day is prescribed but sometimes two to three tablets thrice a week may also be prescribed. The duration of therapy is usually three months. • Restlessness
• Muscle aches

Sudden withdrawal symptoms may occur in some people within minutes of administration of the medication. The doctor should be informed immediately if the following symptoms suddenly occur:

• Abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, muscle ache, diarrhea, runny nose
• Mood changes such as anxiety, extreme sleepiness, confusion, and visual hallucinations

Rarely has this medication caused any liver diseases. The patient should be aware that there is an increased risk of contracting liver disease by using this medication.

Revia (Naltrexone HCL – Oral) may cause a serious allergic reaction in very rare cases. In case symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, swelling of the face, lips, throat and eyes, rash, hives, itching and severe dizziness occur, emergency medical help should be called for.

Revia (Naltrexone HCL – Oral) blocks the action of narcotics and as such non-narcotic medications should be prescribed for pain relief in patients who need them.

Revia (Naltrexone HCL – Oral) is used as part of a therapy to help people with opiate addiction get rid of the habit. It has to be administered in combination with compliance monitoring, behavioral contact, counseling and lifestyle changes and is to be prescribed on people who are not using opiates.

Revia (Naltrexone HCL – Oral) is also prescribed to people who suffer from alcoholism.

Revia (Naltrexone HCL – Oral) should be kept at room temperature and out of reach of children and pets.

Revia (Naltrexone HCL – Oral) is not to be prescribed on persons who have an existing opiate dependence or have used it in the past 7-10 days. It is also not to be prescribed on persons who have a known liver disease.
