Side Effects
Symmetrel (Amantadine hydrochloride) may cause common side effects such as drowsiness, headache, constipation, insomnia, nervousness and dizziness. If they persist, the doctor’s advice should be sought.
This medication may cause serious side effects such as difficulty in urinating, swelling on the feet and ankles, red spots on the skin and vision changes. The doctor should be told immediately if any such symptoms occur.
This medication may cause rare but very serious side effects such as depression, suicidal thoughts, shortness of breath, muscle stiffness, unusual sweating, unexplained fever, fast rate of heartbeat and seizures.
Very serious allergic reactions are extremely likely but in case they do occur, emergency medical help is necessary. Symptoms of an allergic reaction are skin rash, hives, shortness of breath, swelling in the face, throat, lips and tongue.
